FAQ
At AWT American Window Tinting, we’re proud to be an authorized installer of Llumar Window Films & PPF, SystemX Ceramic Coatings, and premium wraps from 3M, Oracal, and Avery Dennison. Below are answers to the most common questions about our services.
Window Tinting
Q: What is window tinting, and what does it entail?
A: Window tinting involves applying a thin Llumar film to your vehicle’s glass. This helps reduce glare, heat, and UV rays, while also adding privacy, safety, and a sleek look.
Q: What are the benefits of tinting my car with Llumar films?
A: Llumar Ceramic and Infrared films provide excellent UV protection, reduce interior heat, block glare, improve privacy, and protect your interior from fading.
Q: How does window tinting keep my car cooler?
A: Llumar’s ceramic and infrared-reflective technology blocks solar heat at the glass, keeping your cabin noticeably cooler and more comfortable.
Q: Can tinting protect against harmful UV rays?
A: Yes — Llumar films block up to 99% of harmful UV rays, helping protect your skin and your vehicle’s interior.
Q: How long does window tinting last, and how do I care for it?
A: With professional installation and proper care, Llumar window film can last many years. Simply clean with non-ammonia cleaners and soft cloths.
Q: How do I choose a tint? By color or percentage?
A: Tint is measured by VLT (Visible Light Transmission) percentage — how much light passes through the film. The lower the number, the darker the tint.
Q: What percentage of tint is legal in Florida?
A: Florida law allows 28–35% on the front side windows (depending on vehicle type) and darker tints on rear windows. We’ll help you select a legal option that fits your needs.
Q: How long does it take to tint a vehicle?
A: From 30 minutes to 4 hours, depending on the number of windows and vehicle size.
Ceramic Coating
Q: What is ceramic coating, and how does it work?
A: We use SystemX coatings, which contain ceramic nanoparticles that chemically bond with your paint, forming a transparent and durable layer that resists dirt, water, and UV rays.
Q: How long does SystemX ceramic coating last?
A: Depending on the product (Pro, Max, or Diamond), SystemX coatings last 2–5+ years. We also recommend an annual topcoat refresh for maximum protection.
Q: Do I still need to wax my car after ceramic coating?
A: No — ceramic coating eliminates the need for waxing. It already provides a glossy, long-lasting shield.
Q: What maintenance is required?
A: Maintenance is simple — wash your vehicle by hand every 2–3 weeks using pH-neutral soap and soft microfiber cloths. Avoid harsh chemicals or automatic car washes.
Q: How soon can I drive after coating?
A: You can drive after installation, but avoid washing or exposing the car to rain for at least 24 hours while the coating cures.
Q: How do I know when the coating needs reapplication?
A: When water no longer beads on the surface and the gloss begins to fade, it’s time to refresh the coating.
Paint Protection
Q: What is PPF, and what does it do?
A: Llumar Platinum PPF is a virtually invisible, self-healing urethane film that protects your car’s paint from chips, scratches, road debris, and environmental damage.
Q: How long does PPF last?
A: Llumar PPF typically lasts 5–10 years and includes a manufacturer’s limited lifetime warranty.
Q: Does PPF change the way my car looks?
A: No — Llumar PPF is optically clear and maintains your car’s original color and gloss.
Q: Where can PPF be applied?
A: Most customers protect high-impact areas (hood, bumper, mirrors, fenders), but we also offer full-vehicle coverage.
Q: Is PPF only for luxury cars?
A: Not at all! PPF is an excellent investment for any vehicle. Whether you drive a luxury car, truck, or daily driver, it helps maintain value and keep paint looking new.
Q: How long does installation take?
A: Partial (hood, mirrors, bumper): 4–6 hours
Full front: 1 day
Full vehicle: 2–3 days
Q: Can I take my car through a car wash with PPF?
A: Hand washing is best. Avoid high-pressure or automatic washes that may lift film edges.
Vehicle Wraps
Q: What is a vehicle wrap?
A: A wrap is a vinyl film (we use 3M, Oracal, and Avery) applied over your paint. It can completely change your car’s color, add custom designs, or advertise your business — while protecting your original paint.
Q: How long does a wrap last?
A: With proper care, wraps last 5–7 years. Florida’s sun can reduce lifespan, but we can add a ceramic coating to extend durability.
Q: Can I wrap just part of my car?
A: Yes — wraps can be full (entire car) or partial (hood, roof, doors, or even stripes).
Q: Will a wrap damage my paint?
A: No. With professional installation, wraps actually protect your paint. They can also be removed safely without damage.
Q: How do I wash a wrapped vehicle?
A: Hand wash only with mild soap. Avoid automatic car washes or pressure washing edges.
Q: How long does a wrap take to install?
A: Full color change: 2–3 days
Commercial graphics (box trucks, vans, etc.): 2–4 days depending on prep and design.
Q: What’s the difference between a wrap and PPF?
A: Wraps are designed for style and customization, while PPF is clear and focused on protection. Some clients combine both — PPF on the front, and a wrap for the rest.
